Accessibility Tools

As a chronically ill individual, some accessibility tools have been invaluable to me. Below are products that I recommend for chronic pain and chronic fatigue. It’s worth scrolling all the way through, as these are in no particular order!

I only recommend items I have personally used and currently find helpful.

Grip Aid

Brand: Numuv

A medical grade silicone grip aid that I use for drawing and sometimes writing.

While I typically only use this product for those two needs, it can be utilized for eating and hygienic purposes that may be difficult due to either pain or loss of mobility.

I particularly like this grip aid because you can use almost any pen or pencil you prefer. It works nicely with Apple pencils as well, which is helpful for my digital drawing.

Copper Compression Gloves

Brand: Copper Compression

Truthfully, these are my new go-to compression gloves. I, as many people with chronic illnesses, get overheated easily. These gloves are made of extremely lightweight material that allows my skin to breathe. They also have better grips than some other brands!

Please make sure to either try multiple sizes or measure your hands according to the product page so you can find the most comfortable fit. Your hands should have full mobility while feeling more secure.

Cotton compression gloves I use to help control muscle tremors, pain, and skin sensitivity.

Compression Gloves with Grips

Brand: Jiufentian

Cotton compression gloves I use to help control muscle tremors, pain, and skin sensitivity. This pair has helpful grips so you can hold pens and phones easier. These are also made out of a lighter and thinner material than the Vive compression gloves.

Village Naturals Therapy Comfort Soak

Brand: Village Naturals Therapy

Village Naturals Therapy Comfort Soak (formerly Chronic Pain & Fatigue epsom salt soak) is a helpful addition to a warm bath when dealing with muscle pain and fatigue from chronic issues. This is the only thing that consistently relaxes my body.

There is also a body wash that is wonderful, especially if you do not have access to a bath! You can find that here.

Walking Cane with Strap

Brand: NOVA

This NOVA Walking Cane with a foam grip and wrist strap is my favorite cane that I’ve tried. It’s made out of aluminum and is adjustable while being sturdy.

Heating Pad

Brand: GOQOTOMO

I adore this heating pad! It has a great range of heat settings and timers. I’m a big believer in making your day-to-day items things that make you smile, and the flowers on this certainly do!

Body Pillow

Brand: BYRIVER

This body pillow is honestly the most comfortable I have ever had. I use it to sleep, to rest my arms on when watching something, to act as a barrier between my legs and plates, and whenever I’m resting or scrolling on my phone.

This is fantastic for anyone who has joint pain that is worsened by their joints coming in contact with one another. It is not cheap, but I have had mine for several months and it is still going strong!

Copper Compression Arm Sleeve

Brand: Copper Compression

To go with the gloves mentioned, I use this sleeve on my right arm when I am working at my desk to help prevent my skin from getting overly sensitive. This is extremely comfortable and truly lightweight!

Dry Shaver

Brand: Kojintora

Dry shaver for painless hair removal on legs and underarms.

This product is helpful when being in water for too long is painful and you still want a shave. Keep in mind that this is not a close shave, but it’s better than nothing and is difficult to get nicked by.

Razor with Built-In Moisturizing Bar

Brand: Intuition

Razors with built-in moisturizing bars. They’re a fast and easier alternative to regular razors and shaving cream.

This particular product offers a closer shave than the dry shaver and the replacement blades are sold in most chain stores.

Make sure to follow typical shaving instructions when using these razors. They’re great for those who are new to shaving!

Thumb & Wrist Stabilizer

Brand: Dr. Welland

This Thumb and Wrist Stabilizer is helpful for anyone who experiences carpal tunnel symptoms after confirming with a doctor that there are no other issues.

It’s light and extremely adjustable, including a velcro strap around the thumb and wrist.

Please be careful when using any type of brace/stabilizer, as you can create muscle atrophy which causes more health issues. You should only look into using braces/stabilizers after seeing a doctor. My personal recommendation is not a substitute for medical advice.

Drawing Glove

Brand: XENCELABS

This is technically a drawing glove to make digital drawing easier (which it does!), but it can also be used when taking notes if you experience skin sensitivity. It prevents your skin from rubbing up against the paper.

Seat Cushion & Orthopedic Back Pillow

Brand: Coccyx

I’ve tried multiple seat cushions and lumbar supports, but this set is by far the best!

The seat cushion makes sitting at a desk much easier if you have hip pain. It’s extremely comfortable!

The lumbar support can be strapped to your chair, but it also works well if you hold it in place with your back.

Neither slip, making them easy to use!

Laptop Stand for Desk

Brand: Arae

If you deal with skin sensitivity and your forearms are irritated by resting on your laptop or desk, this stand is a lifesaver! I currently use this to prop up my laptop to the same height as my monitor.

It folds up for easy storage and doesn’t slide.

Ergonomic Mouse

Brand: Lekvey

This ergonomic mouse is incredibly comfortable. It’s ensured I don’t suffer from more pain while using my computer. It’s rechargeable and comes in fun colors!

It definitely takes some getting used to, but it’s worth it!

Keyboard Wrist Rest

Brand: Gimars

This Keyboard and Mouse Wrist Rest set are a game changer for anyone who uses a keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time.

These help with my wrist and shoulder pain from typing for hours. I highly recommend these! They also come with stick dots to keep them from sliding. The wrist rest itself is wider and longer than most I’ve seen.

Acrylic Book Stand

Brand: Pandorama

I tend to research with physical media and this book stand has helped to prevent my skin from getting overly sensitive due to the rough pages on my forearms. It is sturdy, versatile, and is one of my favorite tools!

Desk Footrest with Cushion

Brand: Amazer

I have only just started using this and I can tell you that my feet have never felt better under my desk! This awesome footrest has the option to either rock or remain stationary with grips to ensure it doesn’t slide. The cushion is detachable and just straps on.

Aromatherapy Stress Relief Body Wash & Foam Bath

Brand: Aromatherapy Bath & Bodyworks

Aromatherapy Stress Relief Body Wash & Foam Bath is a soothing addition to warm showers and baths. You don’t have to use much for the scent and suds to help with achiness and sore muscles.

Dental Flosser

Brand: T. Smile

My dental hygienist told me about this accessible flosser and it’s a game changer! The handle is a good size and it’s easy to use even when my hands are shaking and/or hurting more than my normal.

Knee Pillow

Brand: Saloniture

I find this knee pillow to be extremely comfortable to put under my knees when I lay on my back. If I’m overheated or if my feet are throbbing, this really helps!

Sliding Erasers

Brand: Staedtler

These Staedtler sliding erasers are the closest things I could find to my retractable eraser. These make holding erasers much easier!

Comfort Grip

This brand has a lot of great craft accessibility tools! These particular grips fit pens, pencils, markers, and more. They’re made of foam and are extremely soft, making them easy to hold. I highly recommend them!

One product that helps me day-to-day is an adjustable bed frame. It is not an affordable option so I do not give it a typical space in the list. If you are interested in this option, I would suggest going to a mattress store to see what their products are. I only have mine because it came with the mattress! Stores will periodically run deals like this so please consider that if you’re interested!

Helpful Items

The below are not necessarily accessibility tools, but they are helpful items that I use on a daily basis.

Q-Tip Holder

Brand: AXX

While you do have to be careful about how/when you use Q-Tips, this holder is much easier to manage. The lid is easy to remove.

Mason Jar Pitcher & Lid

Brand: Country Line

I use this quart mason jar pitcher and lid combo for milk in a mini fridge. The lid is airtight and has never had a leak even in the year I’ve been using it.

Indoor Digital Thermometer

Brand: ThermoPro

This mini indoor digital thermometer accurately tells the temperature of whatever room you put it in and has the helpful feature of also showing the humidity.

Marshmallow Earbuds

Brand: JVC

These are comfortable earbuds that I think sound good without being too expensive. They used to be cheaper, but I think they’re worth it because I’ve had the same pair for years and they still work just as well as they did when I first started using them.

Cable Holders

Brand: OHill

These cable holders have adhesive backs that allow them to be used almost anywhere. I keep some attached to my desk for my phone and laptop chargers.

Wall Mounted Holders

Brand: Tinkeep

While these wall mounted holders are designed for mops and brooms, I use them to hold my cane and that works very well! They’re adhesive so no screws are necessary.

Remote Control Holder

Brand: LVYOUIF

These remote control holders are extremely helpful in keeping your spaces organized! I recommend mounting them with command strips instead of the adhesive strips they include in your order.

Bedside Shelf

Brand: OKOMATCH

I use this organizer to hold two cups that I keep my dry erase board markers in. I recommend using command strips to stick them to the wall instead of the adhesive strips that come in the package.

Utility Cart

Brand: IKEA

I keep this rolling utility cart next to my bed to hold essential items. It’s worth the price in my opinion, because the wheels are sturdy and the cart itself is metal. A lot of carts I’ve seen at other stores are plastic and therefore not as durable.

Reading Light

Brand: CUHIOY

This clip on reading light is my absolute favorite I have ever used! I clip it to my desk to have sturdy, reliable lighting, especially when researching. It has multiple colors and brightness settings, it is rechargeable, and is great quality!
